Results from Helsinki!!

Skills/Compétences Canada is proud of the accomplishments of all Team Canada 2005 competitors. We would like to congratulate our medal winners and thank each and every competitor for their dedication, hard work and determination in their training and their performance in Helsinki.

  • Chris Fournier (NWT) - Trade 17 (Web design): Gold
  • Katy Desroches (QC) - Trade 30 (Aesthetics): Bronze
  • Catherine Guillet (QC) - Trade 32 (Confection/Pastry): Silver
  • Menno Vanderlist (AB) - Trade 39 (IT PC/Network Support): Silver
  • Caroline Faucher (QC) - Trade 40 (Graphic Design): Gold

Besides the 5 medals, Canada also won 8 international standards in the following trades:

  • Refrigeration  - Mathieu Girard (QC)  

The Best of Nation Award for Canadaand the Albert Vidal Award were given to Menno Vanderlist (AB)

WorldSkills 2005 Helsinki

Young Vocational Skills Specialists in Helsinki 26 -29 May 2005

In the WorldSkills Competition, organised every second year, young people under 23 years of age from all over the world compete in the skills of their vocational fields. There are 34 official competition skills and about five demonstration skills. The skills represent the fields of technology, industry, and services. About 800 competitors from nearly 40 countries participate in the competition.

What is WorldSkills?
WorldSkills is a not for profit membership association open to agencies or bodies which have a national responsibility for promoting vocational education and training in their respective countries. WorldSkills operates worldwide and is politically and denominationally neutral.

WorldSkills provides a unique means of exchange and comparison of world-class competency standards in the industrial trades and service sectors of the global economy. The continued growth of WorldSkills attests to the fact that traditional trade and craft skills along with the newer technology multi-skilled vocations make an essential contribution to the economic and social well being of peoples everywhere.

Canada Wins WorldSkills Competition for 2009! 

2009

The world's best young tradespeople from more than forty countries will showcase their skills in Calgary from September 8th to 11th, 2009.

On May 10th, 2004 in Hong Kong, the WorldSkills organization announced that  Canada was chosen to host the 2009 WorldSkills Competition. Calgary will be the host city for the international, Olympic-style competition that showcases young skilled tradespeople from over forty countries.  The 2009 event marks the first time that Alberta hosts a WorldSkills event and only the second time for Canada.
